5 fun things you can do with your new drone

I like to explore new ways to take fun photos and videos and come up with creative and interesting new ways of showing off that content to family, friends and the general public. Here’s a few suggestions based on positive feedback I’ve received.

Take and share selfie shots in cool locations

With a drone, you don’t need to have a friend with you, or even carry a selfie stick, to take amazing ‘selfie’ pictures. You can get yourself set up on an amazing viewpoint or at an interesting location, and send the drone up, fly to a great photo-taking spot, and have it snap some shots of you. Capturing these types of photos encourages me to get out in nature more, exploring new places, and getting great exercise in the process.

Share useful pictures to various Apps

Lots of people take all sorts of pictures with their phones these days, and upload those pictures to Apps they like to use. Whether it’s a trail finding app, a product review app, social media etc, those pictures can be particularily useful to other people. You may want to see for yourself what the recent trail conditions were, or you want to see a product unboxing. With a drone, you can offer people a unique perspective that others can’t and share those images online. One of my favorite things to do with my DJI Mini 3 pro is take 360 degree photos and upload them to Google Maps. Here’s one I did recently of a park near where I live.

Capture action footage

My son is a huge BMX fan. He loves to hit the jumps off of a nearby trail and he loves to watch his footage later. My aging legs prevent me from keeping up with him while recording with my GoPro, so we have DJI do it! I put the drone in follow mode and off he goes. It creates amazing footage.

I like to do something similar while hiking, especially when I get to an amazing viewpoint. I’ll have the drone follow me as a hike a particular section of trail, and share it later with friends.

Create FPV videos

First person view videos are highly engaging due to the dramatic angle that the camera catches. Did you know that you can easily put most drones into FPV mode, enabling you to fly around a park or venue capturing sensational footage? Be careful though! This mode takes some getting used to, and inexperienced fliers can easily crash.

Create “How to” videos

The last fun idea for things to do with your new drone is to create videos that teach people how to do things? For example, you could become an expert at taking FPV videos or at capturing amazing waterfall footage, and then teach people how to do it. This types of videos are extremely popular on video sharing sites.
